Showtime Synergy~

Do you remember the cartoons back in the good old days of the late 80's and early 90's? Aren't they just great compared to the rubbish we get on all those cartoon channels we get now? Yeah sure things have gone more high tech with 3D lifelike animations and new-age funky animation styles, but what children really want are cartoons that can pique their imagination. gore, violence, dark storylines of crime was almost non-existent during my time.We had feel-good ,creative, painstakingly drawn 2D masterpieces! There were less cartoons then, but the quality and creativity of those cartoons just stay in our hearts forever.

There weren't many girly girl cartoons back then. The only one i can really remember is Jem! Whoa i really loved Jem but unfortunately it was shown on a Sunday and at that time in Johor our holidays were Friday and Saturday so i would almost invariably miss out unless i ponteng Sundays~

For those who don't know, this is Jem.

As you can see she is a rock star type with typical 80's BIG hair~ Jem was an American animated television series that ran from 1985-1988. However i think it only came to our shores a few years later cos i remembered watching it in the early 90's. The cartoon was about Jem and her band the Holograms who have to fend off unfriendly advances from a rival band called the 'Missfits'. It was so cute that the half hour cartoon was peppered with one minute music videos from the 'bands'. They even sold dolls with cassettes of songs from the show, with karaoke minus-one tracks to boot.

Jem and the holograms

Jerrica Benton is the owner of starlight music and she becomes Jem by using the power of Synergy, an incredibly powerful holographic/audio synthesizer, by touching her star-shaped earrings and saying "Showtime Synergy". Amazing powers i tell u! She can change her wardrobe and that of her whole band using that synthesizer! Why haven't they invented something like that yet?

The missfits

Due to my new found enthusiasm for 80's cartoons i went on major search overdrive on Youtube and i found a whole host of retro 80's cartoons. Some of them were such gems~ some of them i had temporarily forgotten their existence.

Dinosaucers

Take the 'dinosaucers' for example. Who remembers this one?I certainly did not until i saw it on Youtube. According to wilkipedia "The show follows the Dinosaucers and their battles against the evil Tyrannos. Each group is composed of intelligent anthropomorphic dinosaurs or other prehistoric reptilian species. The Dinosaucers are also allied with four humans known as the Secret Scouts. The two group originally come from a planet in acounter-Earth orbit known as Reptilon." High-tech or what?

The evil Tyrannos

The secret scouts

And of course who could forget every boys favourite cartoon? The Transformers~ The cinemas are going to be packed to the brim with nostalgic boy-men when this one opens in the cinemas soon. Be warned though the box-office version will be a live-action film with CGI robots and not like the 2D animations of the past.

Optimus Primus the big red truck.

Another evergreen fave 'Alvin and the chipmunks' were also one of my favourite cartoons. I especially liked the movie version of it way back in the 90's called the Chipmunk Adventure. I can still remember the soundtrack from the movie till this day.Mainly because my brother and i accidentally taped over my Dad's boxing documentary with the Chipmunks Adventure way back when VCR's were the way to go.

Female chipmunks from a still from 'The chipmunks adventure'.

Ok before u think i've gone out of my mind and just entered a phase of second-childhood, i just want to reminisce one more cartoon which is the very short-lived Galaxy High. I don't know whether anyone actually remembers this but it was one of my all-time favourites which i watched at 6pm while eating dinner. Note that this was during the time that i had an 8om bedtime.

Galaxy High

'Galaxy High is an American animated series that premiered on September 13, 1986 on CBS and ran for 13 episodes until December 6, 1986. The series was created by movie director Chris Columbus and featured music and a theme song composed by Eagles member Don Felder. Galaxy High was about two earth teenagers who were accepted into the interstellar high school, Galaxy High School on the asteroid Flutor. The teenage boy, Doyle, was popular in his earth high school while the teenage girl Aimee was shy and as the theme song states, "the smartest girl in school, not very popular, not very cool." But once in space, the alien teenagers seem to accept the not so popular Aimee, while Doyle tends to rub the aliens the wrong way. The show has hints of a budding romance between Doyle and Aimee but was never given time to grow due to only 13 episodes being produced' -source Wilkipedia

These bring back memories indeed. So if you're in the mood for a walk down memory lane , shimmy down to Youtube and search for these cartoons. You'll be smiling the whole time i gurantee it~

Work~

For some unknown reason, Way Tern's picture disappeared after one day online? Can someone pls tell me what happened? I've reposted the picture though. Ha ha ha hope it stays on this time..

Well, i was in a really pensive reflective mood today cos it struck me real hard once again that my holidays were coming to an abrupt end. Ok ok not very abruptly, but it sure does feel that way to me. 3 months just sped past me in the blink of the eye. Why oh why does time fly by so fast when i'm having fun? Lets just hope our 2 years of housemanship will be over in a blink of the eye~ ha ha wishful thinking ya? I am just too optimistic for my own good, i tell you.

Well after 3 months of living the life of a very free housewife, the reality of going to WORK up to 24 hours a day just terrifies me. Yes, i've been on call before but i can't help but feel detached from the medical world after 3 months of doing practically nothing but relax~ Aaaahh~
I'd better start reading up my books real soon or risk serious embarrassment when working~

I'm excited by the prospect of starting a brand new life in a foreign (to me anyway) place but also dismayed by the fact that i am 7 hours (by road) from home. The worst bit is that (ok i heard this from a hairstylist so not exactly foolproof facts) there is no direct flight from Ipoh to JB. I have to transit at KLIA. And according to him, the flights to Jb are usually at night .. ~ Dang~ I'll have to sort all that out when i get to Ipoh.

So then there's the problem of accommodation. According to Mee Mei, the hostels are pretty good and are conveniently within the hospital compound with furniture provided. And~ we can move out anytime we want if we find better accommodation. Coolness~ except that it is a twin sharing room. So u'd better pray your room mate is not some mentally tormented houseman or medical officer. Apparently there is no problem with a guy and girl sharing a room~ *thts an eye-opener, cos i remembered that no guys were allowed at a girls hostel in local unis* Hmm~ but there's the question of availability and 'what will ppl think?'.Hahahahaha am i a worry wart or what. So with me being a worrywart albeit an optimistic one, (contradictory i know) i'm just hoping that these things will all be sorted out once i reach Ipoh.

Shopping though will not be a problem cos there's a Jusco located 10minutes from the hospital or so i heard so i am going to look forward to blowing my salary on some irrelevantly expensive yet pretty treats for myself.. muahaha.. i'm also wondering how much of my salary should go to my parents? 1k? For the first month~ hahaha but still already a big chunk of my salary. Sorry, i really shouldn't plan on how to spend my money when i don't even have it yet.

What i really worry will be the lack of my daily dose of Singapore TV and weekly dose of 8 Days (weekly Singaporean entertainment mag). I grew up on it , i can't help it. I'm probably going to subscribe to MobTv a broadband tv download service so i can watch all the spore tv i want at my own time~if i do have the time anyway~ Sorry i don't want to sound like a bimbo but unfortunately tv is a big part of my life.

Of course most importantly, i want to be a good doctor. I'll do the best i can to treat my patients with the outmost respect and highest level of care that i am able to provide as a doctor.

A new chapter of life is beginning for me and many of my batch mates.

I guess things happen for a reason.

Well let me end this post with a picture of JH's new toy~

Sweet~~

Cute little boy~

This picture is too nice to keep to myself~ muahaha~ so must share~

Can you guess who this cute little boy is? Hint: our batch mate

Quite easy right?

Langkawi Day 2

okies after the outburst of emotions yesterday I've finally come to terms with the impending posting to Ipoh. Ha ha ha so i guess I'd better make the most with what I've got.

These are more of the pictures that we took in Langkawi.

Jh woke me up bright and early at 7 am!! cos he didn't want to be late for the buffet breakfast~ i was less than excited bout a breakfast but i gotta eat ~ so yups the breakfast was the usual mix of east(nasi lemak, noodles, roti canai etc) and west(cereal, bread, jams and butter, sausages, hash browns tea coffee fruits etc) breakfast. Then we had till 10 am to wait till our island hopping tour. Grrr...

The stupid tour coordinators at the Awana Porto Malai activity centre charged us RM40 each while we overheard that the other tourists from other agencies were charged only RM 25!!! And they were ang moh's and hongkies and Koreans and Africans and they got a better deal than us locals?? I feel damn stupid okie? They are much better at haggling than us.. or maybe they got a more honest tour person. Sien.. anyway.. we took lots of pictures.

Looking weird in sunnies~

The Island of the pregnant maiden. Can u see it? Ur supposed to see the head, her breasts, hand resting on her abdomen and pregnant bump. Good imagination eh those ppl? Anyway there is this freshwater lake in the island. And its cool cos its separated just by a bit of land from the sea water. And legend has it, the water in the lake has magical powers. Women who were barren for years were able to conceive after taking a dip in those waters~Muahaha.

Eagle feeding. The eagles were already waiting for us to go feed them.

Ang Moh beach~ we stopped at one of the beaches for a swim.Lovely clean, pristine beach.

I just love the colour of the sea.It has like2-3 shades of blue/green

The islands were teeming with monkeys~ one even stole our plastic bag which contained JH's clothes. Muahaha he had to really run after the little fella. This monkey was less aggressive. Here he is enjoying a banana handed out by a Korean lady from our boat.

Even though i was really tired, JH insisted that we cover more ground today. So we head on down to the Oriental Village to get on the cable cars.

On our way up up up.. supposed to be the longest cable car route in SEA.

Nice bridge~ the cable car stops at a few rest areas to that we could take in the view and cool crisp air. This was one of it with a lovely suspension bridge.

Notice tht its getting a little misty? Cos we went there in the evening.

er.. no comment~

After the cable car ride we went on down to go feed some animals. Cos we love animals~

Cute bunny running away from me. The older ones were much more friendly while this little cutie absolutely refused to touch our food.

Showing his bum at me.

I was feeding the rabbits and JH asked me to feed the deers with the rabbit food! WHAT?? But i did it anyway and soon they were swarming over me. Imagine a had only one tiny little packet to be shared by 4 baby deers~

JH getting chummy with Mr. rabbit.

Cos we've heard so much about 'The Datai' which charges up to a few thousand per night per room, we decided to go sneak in. It was in a super secluded part of the island and there were hardly any locals there except the workers~ I think this is the first time i felt so uncomfortable on home soil. i was waiting for someone to come and 'shoo me out or something. haha but nothing happened la. The Caucasian guests were actually pretty friendly.

Anyway we didn't stay long. Took one picture and left. Haha and this is one of the chalets there.

Yup tht concludes day 2~
